My name is Kees Repelius and I am a food chemist by training. I live in the Netherlands in a small village in a rural area in the north. After years of photographing with a film camera I started with digital photography about five years ago and I suppose as anyone who is familiar with analog photography a lot had to be learnt to make the change. I am now very happy with the almost unlimited creative possibilities that digital photography offers, there are hence still worlds to discover. I am mainly concentrating now on nature photography and on travel photography in a broad sense and have moved up to professional equipment to allow for more flexibility.
I currently use a Canon 1D MarkIV with a Canon EF17-40mm F4L USM lens. In addition I own four other lenses, a Canon 24-105mm F4 L IS USM, a Canon EF70-200mm F4 L USM, a Canon EF100mm F2.8 Macro USM, a Canon EF300mm F4 L IS USM and a Canon 1.4x extender. I use flash sparingly, mainly for fill in as I want to keep the image as natural as possible. For this purpose I own a Canon Speedlite 580EX. A recent addition is the Better Beamer, a flash extender that allows selective fill in flash with telephoto lenses that I am now experimenting with.
